- Damage is isolated to one slope or section
- Underlying deck and underlayment look healthy
- Less than ~25% of the field is compromised
- Shingles still have granule coverage
- Multiple recurring leaks across different areas
- Decking shows widespread rot or sag
- Granules in gutters; bald shingles on south slopes
- You're nearing the end of warrantied life
- Layer count is at code maximum (no overlay allowed)
